The USS Alaric has undergone two refits since she was commissioned in 1982 as an Original Series era Saladin-Class Destroyer.

In 1993, she was upgraded to a Next Generation era Alaric-Class Heavy Destroyer and served in that capacity for 20 years.

In 2014, the Alaric was upgraded to a Prometheus Class Multi-vector Advanced Escort. Her defensive and offensive capabilities make her sought after to provide convoy escort, but her advanced scientific instrumentation also makes her popular for first contact missions and scientific exploration of newly-explored areas of space.
