Chief Science Officer Handbook

Starfleet Sciences is an informational resource for STARFLEET's regions and chapters. The philosophy governing Starfleet Sciences is to acknowledge each region's and each chapter's right to run their science departments in the manner desired by, and most appropriate for, their members. Guidance is provided to assist the regions and chapters to accomplish their science mission. Regions may designate Regional Science Officers, if they so desire, and determine the duties of such Regional Science Officers. They could be part of a regional division chief program, or be stand-alone regional staff members, or some other administrative structure. Regional Science Officers could coordinate science activities within the region, receive reports from Chief Science Officers (CSOs) from the ships in the region, and serve as a source of Star Trek-related and real-world science information for the staff members and ships within the region. It is hoped that, if a Regional Science Officer exists, they would be in contact with Starfleet Sciences so their regional science activities can be represented in Starfleet Sciences reports. Region One Sciences also provides guidance to R/1 ship CSO's for reporting to the Sciences Regional Division Chief. Each region should set up their regional departments and reporting requirements to meet their needs, but the R/1 CSO reporting system is offered here as guidance and for use as a possible template, should the region desire to use it.
