Welcome to the U.S.S. Alaric Web Site!
The U.S.S. Alaric is a chapter of STARFLEET International, one of the largest science-fiction fan club organizations in the world (according to the Guinness Book of World Records). STARFLEET is the world's oldest Star Trek fan club and, as of early 2025, had nearly 5000 members in over 200 chapters worldwide.
Even though the Alaric's mailing address is a P.O. Box in Enka, NC, our city of charter is Asheville, North Carolina, and we are part of STARFLEET's Region One. The Alaric began in 1982 as the first STARFLEET chapter in North Carolina. Over the years, as our shuttles in other parts of the state became full chapters (ships), the Alaric took on a western NC focus. So we are the chapter home for STARFLEET members (and nonmembers!) in western North Carolina and environs. If you have an interest in Star Trek, we are here for you!
Our focus is Star Trek and science-fiction, as well as real-world science. Our members love discussing Star Trek, SF, science as portrayed in Star Trek and SF, and real-world science, especially NASA space missions but also any field of science. Since our CO is the Region One division chief for science, this makes the Alaric the science flagship of STARFLEET's Region One. In addition to Star Trek Watch Parties and science discussions, we also like to play games — board games and card games, especially if they have a Star Trek, SF, or science theme. We have monthly meetings, usually on Saturday afternoons — check out our history for an idea of what we have done, and drop us a line if you'd like to know when and where our next meeting is. We also conduct away missions in an effort to satisfy our curiosity and grow closer as a group.
Please consider joining us at our next meeting! You don't have to be a member to attend the meeting, but we hope you'll consider joining once you've seen what fun we have!
