January 2003 Snowstorms in North Carolina

In January 2003, North Carolina experienced a series of snowstorms. The following pictures and maps provide you with a taste of what happened.

January 23, 2003 Snowstorm

Snowfall and temperature reports for the Carolina mountains, foothills, and Piedmont.

The Asheville area was spared the really heavy snow:

Heavier snow fell in central North Carolina (as seen in this picture from Salisbury).

Coastal North Carolina had some of the heaviest snowfall:

It was quite a sight to see snow on the beach at Wrightsville Beach (picture 1, picture 3, picture 4, picture 5, picture 6), Cape Hatteras, and Oak Island (before, after)!

Cape Hatteras received a record foot of snow!
