"I've been interested in science ever since an eighth grade aerospace
(meteorology) class. That went hand-in-hand with Star Trek's
(TOS) serious presentation of space exploration, which piqued my
interest in astronomy and America's space program (we were deep in the midst
of the Apollo program at the time). So, science has been a lifelong
interest and dream for me. I'm fortunate that it is also my vocation. I
have a Bachelor's degree in Math with 5 minors
- Physics with Astronomy Option
- Computer Science
- Geography
- History
- English
and a Master's degree in Meteorology/Climatology from the UN-L Geography
Department. My job involves everything I've dreamed of doing: writing
software (Fortran) to analyze climate data, writing up the results for
publication in research journals, and presenting the papers at scientific
conferences, workshops, and public groups.
"My Star Trek background spans five decades. In the 1970's, I was founder and the equivalent of President of the Quei-Starmerian Network and Star Base Andromeda. I was a member of STARFLEET briefly in the mid-1980's but rejoined in the late 1980's and quickly rose to the Captain's seat aboard the U.S.S. Alaric. But my love is science, and I direct the science activities of the Alaric as CO, Chief Science Officer, and Planetary Sciences Department Chief, and the science activities of Region One (originally helping as Assistant RDC Science beginning in February 1997 then as RDC Science since November 1998) and of STARFLEET as FRC Sciences CO (since October 2001 when it was part of the FDC, then FDP then FRC then S.T.A.R. then Holodeck program)."
Starfleet Sciences Executive Officer (XO)
- Commander John Prushko

"My first tour of duty in STARFLEET was in the early 1980's, with a small group out in Illinois. As Science Officer of the starship, I reviewed world news and brought summaries of the world's scientific achievements to our monthly meetings to keep everyone up to date. I eventually gained the rank of LtCmdr before my military career moved me overseas to Korea. Upon my return to the States, I decided to join the correspondence chapter, USS Atlantis, as Science officer. As the chapter met only occasionally due to the dispersement of the crew, I used my time to take classes in the Vulcan Science Academy, gaining several Doctorates and Masters degrees in various science fields. Over time, I became Chief Science Officer of the Atlantis, and its XO, as well as the Regional RDC.
"Personal Life: I graduated from the University of Vermont with a dual Bachelors -- preVeterinary Biology and Animal Sciences. I completed the Air Force ROTC while in college and was commissioned into the Air Force. Trained as a Communications-Computer Officer, I spent much of my military career testing new computer systems, evaluating potential equipment purchases, developing specifications, and project management of various efforts. Continuing my education, I graduated from Webster University with a dual Masters -- Psychology and Political Science. I returned to my home state of Vermont after
leaving the Air Force, where I have continued my computer career with various mainframe/system programming positions and PC technical support positions."
Starfleet Sciences Second Officer (SO)
Starfleet Sciences Specialist / Horticulture and Zoology
- Fleet Capt. Janet Wagoner
FCapt. Wagoner is CSO of the Region One ship, USS Ohio.
"I have attended the Vulcan Academy of Science and, with Honors, am a Specialist III in Biology, Specialist II in Geology and Specialist I in Genetics. I'm also, in real life, an avid gardener. My yard is certified by the Dept. of Natural Resources of Ohio as a wildlife habitat zone. (To qualify you had to list the plant life and any water/shelter that is available.)"
Chief, Starfleet Sciences Stellar Cartography Department
- Brigadier General Mike Calhoun
Hailing from the USS Darksabre in Region 12, Brigadier Gen. Mike Calhoun heads Starfleet Sciences' newly revamped Department of Stellar Cartography. Brigadier Gen. Calhoun is the CO of the USS Darksabre and also the Assistant Compliance Officer for SFI.
"I am a long-time amateur astronomer and astrophotographer. My love of celestial objects started with the purchase of a Radio Shack(TM) telescope on my 6th birthday and has continued for 50 years. I care deeply about the preservation of dark-skies and I am a member-at-large of The Astronomical League."
The Astronomical League is composed of over 240 local amateur astronomical societies from across the United States. Their objective is to promote the science of astronomy by fostering astronomical education, providing incentives for astronomical observation and research, and assisting communication among amateur astronomical societies.
This mirrors the mission of the STARFLEET Sciences’ Stellar Cartography Division:
- To bring together fans of the universe in all its splendor and beauty.
- To share knowledge, tips, tricks, expertise, and equipment sources among those who have the interest.
- To spread the hobby and gain understanding of ourselves and our place in this vast universe.
- Work together to stop the loss of our "dark sky" environment.

Deputy Chief of Stellar Cartography is PO Kirk Steinbruegge, Comms Chief and Webmaster of the USS Umiak. Kirk is a long-time amateur astronomer and 10-year member of the Astronomical Society of Eastern Missouri. Kirk's passion for the hobby and desire to share his knowledge are a huge asset to the Stellar Cartography Department and its members.
